Physical well-being

We have long understood the power of movement, how it sharpens the mind, strengthens the spirit, and connects us to ourselves, each other, and the natural world. Our students ski, hike, climb, swim, and walk these mountains as part of daily life. Physical activity isn’t an “add-on” here, it’s part of who we are.

Yet while we champion the benefits of outdoor adventure, we also recognise that not every student, or every body, is best supported by the same type of movement. Some students need access to structured training environments to build strength, coordination, or confidence. Others may be recovering from injury or exploring fitness for the first time. During the dark winter months, or in extreme weather, reliable indoor facilities offer consistency and accessibility that nature alone cannot provide.

We are now seeking support to develop a dedicated Fitness Centre at the Ecole: a space where students and staff can train, recover, build resilience, and cultivate lifelong habits of physical wellbeing.

Why This Matters

Equity & inclusion: A well-equipped fitness centre ensures that all students, regardless of fitness level or physical ability, have opportunities to move, strengthen, and grow in ways that suit them.

Curricular integration: A fitness facility supports physical education, outdoor education prep, rehabilitation, dance, and cross-training, bringing depth and variety to our curriculum.

Wellbeing & mental health: Countless studies show the link between movement and mood. A fitness centre provides a positive outlet for stress, emotional regulation, and self-care.

Staff and community wellness: These facilities can also benefit staff, contributing to retention, morale, and a culture of shared health and balance.

All-weather, year-round access: Winter in the Alps can limit outdoor options; this space ensures movement remains part of daily life, even on the stormiest days.
