1st of Advent - Deeply grateful

This video captures a historic moment at the Ecole d'Humanité: the student protest on September 23-25, 2024. Our filmmaker Tatiana Ivensen filmed a conversation among some of the most dedicated students who looked back on those days with relief and a sense of genuine pride.

We are grateful that they stood up so firmly for the Ecole d'Humanité and that their voices were heard - after the voices of the staff had not been heard for a long time.

We are relieved that the situation at the Ecole d'Humanité has stabilized since then. While we are sad about all the losses, we are glad that Sarah and Alain are back on board and that Andreas is part of the current Leadership Team. We are grateful for all the signs of concern and support we have received from the global Ecole community. A huge thank you to everyone!

We are confident that we can carry the spirit of the Ecole into the future if we all join in.

Happy 1st Advent!

We feel deeply grateful, proud and relieved. And you?

I am deeply touched by all the comments we can read here. Thank you very much for these powerful, caring words and encouraging wishes! Thank you for the critical comments and the differentiated view on the Ecole d'Humanité. "May the humanistic spirit of Ecole be seen by the world, and may every member of the Ecole community feel immensely proud."
Sending you optimistic Advent wishes, Annette Ruef

My daughter is about to spend four years of her high school journey at this school. Back in 2021, during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, we sent her to Ecole, where she has enjoyed a healthy and happy adolescence. She has thrived in areas such as humanities, arts, sports, cooking, and cross-cultural thinking. However, the incident on September 23 has unfortunately impacted her college application process and caused a significant psychological shock. We are deeply grateful to the teachers and brave, upright students who stood up and spoke out in a timely manner.

Everyone loves Ecole and hopes that its spirit can be passed on and recognized by more people around the world. Respecting students' voices is what makes a school truly meaningful. May the humanistic spirit of Ecole be seen by the world, and may every member of the Ecole community feel immensely proud.

Truly embarrassing for school management and board to rely on literal children to force them to do the right thing. Happy to see that young people can still effect change in a small corner of the world.

This is the best school ever. I am so grateful that my grandsons Shiloh and Asher Dixon have the opportunity to experience all that this school and its students have to offer. Visiting last year was my favorite part of visiting Switzerland

I was a student in the Ecole in 1969. Having grown up in the 60's and having done my fair share of protests, I can relate to this student dissent so well. Having had the unique opportunity to share time with and learn from some of the founders like Edith, Armin, Natalie, Fraulein Peterson to name but a few, I felt so proud of these incredibly sincere, bright and articulate young students. Their calm but powerful message of authenticity literally brought me to tears. Yes, you can make a difference in the Ecole and also in the world and you are doing it. Thank you.

I am deeply thankful and proud of this generation of Ecolianers. As a former helper at the Ecole (1995/96) and a former LPC-camper and councellor the values of the Ecole means a lot to me. The values has a deep impact on me and who I am today. It is wonderful to hear that Sarah and Alain are back at the Ecole, where they belong, all my love to them. The spirit of the Ecole is more important than ever, never give up on the values that for sure will make this world a better place.

I am deeply moved by this documentary. And relieved. And grateful to the incredible students and the teachers. And I am impressed by the board who ‘walked the talk’ of the Ecole values and ethos by responding to the students by respecting their voices and celebrating their courage. And ultimately taking essential action.

It was a profoundly upsetting experience in September to hear about from afar, especially as my second Ecolianer daughter had literally just graduated in June 2024.

Bravo everyone. Kudos. Respect. What a shining example of progressiveness and integrity all round. And what a relief to know that Sarah and Alain are back!

And deep thanks for sharing all this with us, families of alumni. It reinforces my sense that we too ARE the Ecole body.

Wishing you all a nourishing holiday.

With warmest wishes,

Sandra

I am so glad this conflict has been resolved. My Ecole experience was the most significant educational experience in my life. It was 1954, I was 8 years old, and I gained the best perspective on the world to see me through my life. I love the Ecole dehumanized.
